Wedding ring tattoos put a modern twist on two ancient practices.  The first, of course, is the giving of a wedding ring to symbolize love and lifelong commitment; the second is the art of tattooing.  According to historians, wedding rings were first given by the Ancient Egyptians, and tattooing dates back even further, to Neolithic times. Why have they combined?

There are many reasons. Some couples can’t afford wedding bands, so they get tattoos while they save.  Others want to make a permanent declaration of their love, and few things are more permanent than a tattoo. Depending on the size of the tattoo, they can be concealed under a wedding ring while at work.  There is, of course, another option.

Tattoo wedding rings are a relatively recent addition to the bridal jewelry market.  Inspired by ink versions, they incorporate tribal, Celtic and Asian symbols and designs. Most feature these patterns etched in black in the center section of the ring. Who wears them?

Like their permanent predecessors, tattoo wedding rings are worn almost exclusively by younger couples who want something a little different.  Their wearers typically choose them over real tattoos because they either don’t like needles or they want something that can be removed.  But what truly attracts couples to these rings is that they are more personal than traditional ones.

Now, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a simple, classic band of gold. They have been around for centuries and will probably never go out of style. With that said, theres a reason couples have more options than ever when it comes to wedding bands. People want variety. It is, after all, the spice of life!

Popular Styles

In addition to Celtic and tribal designs, tattoo wedding rings also feature Asian symbols and characters. We like the Square Stainless Steel Wedding Ring Featuring Yin and Yang Black Etched Design. Contrary to popular believe, the universal symbol does not depict opposing forces or dualities, but rather complementary opposites, which could be said of almost any couple.  It is theses personal and symbolic meanings that attract couples to these rings.

There are also tattoo wedding rings that don’t mean a thing, they simply feature attractive and interesting designs.  With a repeating and connected s-shaped pattern between two unbroken lines, the Tattoo Wedding Band with Etched Swirl Design is one of our favorites. The ring is available in either white or yellow gold.

Because they are considered niche items, some jewelry stores do not carry these rings. Couples who are interested in tattoo rings should look for a reliable seller on the internet.
